TRAINING TO EXCELLENCE

Our guideline is matching theoretical learning with the ability to apply knowledge acquired to the solution of real local problems.

Training programmes therefore aim at providing both a basic scientific and technical qualified knowledge and an appropriate training to the use of technologies that can reasonably be applied in the countries of origin of trainees, where they will eventually go back to operate.

For each of the three general topics on which MAI-Bari focusses, (management of soil and water resources : irrigated agriculture ; integrated protection of Mediterranean fruit crops and Mediterranean organic farming) training activities are organised in academic years branching out in :

  1. One year course to achieve a DPGS (Diploma in Post-Graduate Specialisation)
  2. Two year courses leading to a Master of Science
  3. Specialised short courses
  4. Modular courses
  5. Stages
  6. Follow-up seminars

Priority is given to addressing Mediterranean and near East Countries, including non CIHEAM members. Moreover a limited number of trainees, selected by international organisations of co-operation to development, come from Asia, Africa and South America to attend the courses.

Admission to the courses is granted to :

  1. High ranking officials from national research centres or public administration in sectors relating to agriculture
  2. University researchers and lecturers
  3. Officials from agriculture extension service agencies
  4. Young agronomists, engineers and biologists not yet involved in production or research
  5. Freelance professionals and farmers.

Training is carried out, following a unique and highly flexible approach, by the teaching staff of MAI-Bari, one of the Institute’s most valuable jewels, in synergy with the didactic contributions of authoritative and prestigious scientists coming from Universities all over the world, research institutions and International organisations.
The small group of in-house researchers is matched by a high number of visiting professors invited to hold seminars and cycles of lessons extending over one to two weeks.

Lessons are held in one of the three official languages of MAI-Bari (Italian, French and English), with a simultaneous translation service in the other two, and they are integrated by laboratory and field exercises and research activities.
