“Bridging the gap, Empowering Organic Africa” was the theme of the 1st EU/North Africa Conference on Organic Agriculture (EU- NACOA) which was held in Marrakech between 10 and 13 November 2019.
The conference was organized by INRA Morocco in collaboration with the University Cadi Ayyad-Marrakech, the Mohammed 6 Polytechnic University (UpM6), ISOFOAR, FIMABIO, AfrONent and the IAV - Hassan II.
CIHEAM Bari Alumni Network Network (FTN) were a strategic partner to the success of the conference, together with the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements IFOAM EU Group and the Association Marocaine de Biotechnologie et de Protection des Ressources Naturelles (MICROBIONA).
Dr. Noureddin Driouech, Coordinator of CIHEAM Bari Alumni Network (FTN) and member of the EU-NOCOA Scientific Committee, has represented the CIHEAM Bari during the opening ceremony and served as keynote speaker with a paper entitled “ Landscape of research on organic farming in North Africa: a bibliometric analysis” during the working session 2 on “ Organic agricultural systems design and management, diversification of organic farming and cropping systems, role of rotation, multi-cropping and intercropping, agroforestry and agroecology”.
The conference was performed by 9 keynote speakers, 33 oral communications and 62 posters covering different topics related to organic agriculture sectors as follows:
Furthermore, the conference has gathered 160 participants, many are already members of CIHEAM Community and CIHEAM Bari Alumni Network (FTN), from 24 countries: Algeria, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Kenya, Kosovo, Macedonia, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, Norway, Poland, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sudan, Switzerland, Tanzania, Tunisia, Turkey and USA. Several professionals and association operating in the organic farming has attended the event. Many communication were presented by young researchers, PhD and Master students.
CIHEAM Bari Alumni Network (FTN) has received a Recognition and Appreciation letter for the valuable effort and assistance made by to gather CIHEAM Alumni, former trainees, scientists, their universities and institutions to contribute and get together to celebrate the first event ever on Organic Agriculture.
